Copper Press Fittings with a ProPress Tool

What is a Propress Tool

A ProPress tool is crimper (think of super-strong electric pliers) that a we use to squeeze the ProPress fitting onto your pipe. You just snap the right size jaw on it, put it around the fitting, pull the trigger, and in 5–10 seconds it crunches the fitting super tight so it’ll never leak. No fire, no mess, no waiting for anything to cool. This one tool can fix anything from a tiny ½-inch line under your sink in Yorba Linda to a 4-inch main line in Costa Mesa, and once job is done, you can turn the water right back on.

A ProPress is great for quickly fixing leaking or burst copper pipes, bad shut-off valves, pinhole leaks, adding new faucets or ice-maker lines, and replacing old, rusted parts—even when the pipe is wet or hidden behind walls—without using a torch or draining the whole house.

Pipe Repair Without Soldering Benefits

With ProPress, you can make quick, flameless, leak-proof copper repairs in minutes, even on wet or thin-walled pipes in finished spaces. You don’t need torches, and you don’t have to drain the whole system or worry about starting a fire.

  • Saves labor time: We get the job done faster saving us time and you money.
  • Lasts 50+ years: Expected service life is half a century or more.
  • Flameless: No fire risk compared to soldering, no hot work permits and safe to use next to wood.
  • Works Immediately: No waiting for the solder to cool, works as soon as the fitting is pressed.
  • Reliable, Repeatable: Every joint is pressed exactly the same and almost never leaks again.
  • Works on All Types of Pipes: Copper, PEX, stainless steel and more, you fix or extend it with ProPress fittings.
  • Approved for Many Things: Drinking water, hot water, compressed air, natural gas, and even fire sprinkler lines.
Many plumbers don’t have a ProPress tool because they are expensive, so they will still solder, shark-bite, or put together threaded fittings instead. That usually means they have to drain your whole house, bring a torch, buy extra nipples and couplings, and spend three to five times longer on the job. This costs you a lot more in parts and labor than a quick ProPress repair would.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ProPress better than soldering?
Yes, for almost all repairs it is the best way to fix a pipe without replacing it. It’s faster, safer, works on a wet pipe, and is just as strong.

Why isn’t soldering as effective as ProPress
Soldering takes a long time, needs the pipe to be dry, and can burn your walls. It also depends on the plumber’s skill (cold joints, burnt flux pinholes, weak spots).

Do ProPress fittings ever leak?
Our phone rings all the time, but we don’t get calls for repeat leaks.

Why don’t all plumbers use it?
The tool costs between $2,000 and $4,000, so many plumbers don’t have it or some old-school guys still use a torch.

Can you ProPress under concrete?
Yes, it is completely approved for slabs and underground.

Do ProPress fittings have O-rings?
Yes, and now they come pre-lubricated from the factory, so they won’t dry out like they used to.

Can I rent a ProPress tool and repair or replace the pipes in my own home?
You can usually rent a ProPress tool from Lowe’s, Home Depot or a local tool rental store and fix exposed lines in your own home. If you’re a handy homeowner, check the rules for permits in your area first and be ready to properly pressure-test everything after that. If you’re not completely sure about plumbing or the work is behind walls, hire a licensed plumber instead to avoid leaks, insurance problems, or code violations.
